A Spanish court has rejected an appeal to reopen the investigation into the 2021 death of British-American tycoon John McAfee

McAfee's family had asked to reopen the case, which closed with the court's suicide verdict in February 2022.

McAfee was arrested at Barcelona International Airport in October 2020 and was in prison awaiting a court decision on his extradition to the United States, where he was charged with tax evasion of more than $4 million. Prosecutors in Tennessee sought a sentence of up to three decades in prison for him.

McAfee had argued that the charges against him were politically motivated and that he would spend the rest of his life in prison if he returned to the United States.

The eccentric cryptocurrency advocate and tax opponent has a history of legal problems stretching from the United States to Central America to the Caribbean.
